Panini Executive Q&A
Joe Sanders

Joe Sanders, VP Technical Services, Panini North America

Rigorous demand for Panini’s market-leading Vision X™ check scanning platform and the recently released Panini I:Deal™ has prompted the company to expand their technical services capabilities to support the tremendous growth. Panini has more than doubled the size of their North American technical services department over the past year, and continues to set the industry standard in the critical areas of services and support for distributed check capture.

Joe Sanders, VP Technical Services, Panini North America, will discuss what to expect from Panini Services this year!

Arrow You recently announced the launch of a Panini Scanner Portal. What is it?

JS: The Panini Vision X™ Scanner Portal allows users of Panini’s market-leading product suite to obtain statistics about their check scanner. This web portal release demonstrates our continuous commitment to setting industry standards in the critical areas of distributed capture.

Arrow What kind of information can the customer expect to receive from the portal?

JS: Customers can visit www.paniniportal.com to obtain their check scanner’s configuration, usage statistics, serial number and more by simply connecting the scanner to their PC. This information is vital for asset management and routine maintenance and allows customers to capture the data at their convenience. Additionally, Panini customers now have the ability to purchase supplies for their Panini Vision X and submit requests for maintenance via the web — this was previously conducted via email, fax or phone.

It’s a one-stop shop for your Panini Vision X,” says Joe Sanders, VP Technical Services, Panini North America.

Arrow Will you continue to add new functionality to the scanner portal?

JS: Absolutely. Future functionalities of the Panini scanner portal will include support of the new Panini I:Deal, the ability to automatically email your scanner’s configuration once retrieved, an FAQ section, and a training video for the Panini WaffleCard cleaning technology.

Arrow There seems to be a lot of buzz in the industry around check scanners supporting TWAIN 2.0. Why is this important? Will Panini support TWAIN 2.0?

JS: It’s important as a solutions provider, especially in today’s economic conditions, to give customers the best “bang for their buck”. Because TWAIN is the standard software protocol for most imaging technology, and because Panini is the market leader, we will support TWAIN 2.0. A beta driver can now be provided to customers upon request, and we’re very happy to speak with customers about what this new technology means for them and the industry. TWAIN 2.0 will allow our customers to utilize Panini’s check scanning devices for nearly all their imaging needs.

Arrow Is there anything else you’d like to add about Panini Services?

JS: I would just like to make sure all our customers know about and have seen the capability of Panini’s MICR/OCR and ultrasonic double document detection technologies. We are seeing a very high interest in these state-of-the-art technologies as early adopters are experiencing phenomenal MICR read rates and drastically decreased false double document feeds. I would encourage all our customers to ask their account managers for more information.

GVA Advantis

Linda Rushak

RDC practitioner Linda Rushak, GVA Advantis, joined Panini’s Chief Marketing Officer, Michael Pratt, during last month’s quarterly webinar to discuss her company’s RDC experience. For the banks in attendance, this interview was an opportunity to gain perspective from an RDC practitioner as to how they make a decision to implement RDC and what they perceive as the key benefits of RDC — providing FIs with ideas for effectively selling and marketing RDC. For the corporations in attendance, this interview provided a peer’s perspective on RDC, and an understanding of how RDC can benefit their business.

Below is a brief snapshot of the interview. To view the webinar in its entirety, including guest presenter John Leekley, CEO, RemoteDepositCapture.com, click here.

MP: Tell us about GVA Advantis.

LR: GVA Advantis is a full service commercial real estate company. We provide property management services from 12 of our Regional offices located in DC, Virginia, Raleigh/Durham, Atlanta, and multiple locations throughout Florida. Our portfolio consists of approximately 100 clients and 14 million square feet.

MP: What is your role at GVA Advantis?

LR: As the Director of Property Accounting, I oversee the accounting services for our clients. Our services include cash receipts processing, accounts payable (A/P), financial statement analysis and reconciliation and lease administration. We provide accounting for approximately 80 of our clients.

LR: The following decision criteria led us to implement RDC:

  1. Extended deposit time frame — up to 7:00pm for most banks.
  2. Eliminated trips to the bank.
  3. Provided an alternative deposit method for clients that could not use our lockbox.
  4. Provided a solution for checks that were rejected by our lockbox and forwarded to our office.
  5. It’s a cost effective solution:
    1. Scanner is very inexpensive.
    2. Eliminated PO Box costs.
    3. Eliminated courier costs to pick up mail and deliver deposits.
    4. Eliminated manual steps associated with traditional bank deposits.
    5. Using a combined RDC and automated lock box processing system, we were able to reduce our cash receipts staff from 3 FTE’s to 1.5. The second person devotes half their time to A/P processing.

Panini I:Deal

Tips

Panini introduced their newest check scanning platform designed specifically for small business remote deposit capture (RDC) at the BAI TransPay Conference last month. The Panini I:Deal™ captured attention with its presence in the booths of many leading technology companies, endorsement by Edward Jones in the Solutions Theatre, and a very well attended Panini private celebration.

“Despite the current economic conditions prompting banks to pull back on conference attendance, Panini witnessed a huge draw to our new product,” says Doug Roberts, President, Panini North America. “Our claim that the Panini I:Deal is the small business RDC solution the market’s been waiting for was certainly evidenced by this successful event.”

In addition to the substantial showing in the expo hall and at the private celebration event, the Panini I:Deal was also presented in the solutions theatre by Panini and Edward Jones. “It’s not everyday that a leading financial institution such as Edward Jones stands before a crowd the day after a product is launched to say they’ve already purchased 10,000 units,” adds Roberts. Incorporating the industry-leading reliability, quality and performance customers expect from Panini, the Panini I:Deal™ features unparalleled affordability combined with best total quality.

The conception and design of the Panini I:Deal is based on extensive market research to identify the specific and unique requirements of small business RDC users.

Small business users, Financial Institutions (FIs), and Panini partners directly contributed to the design and development of this breakthrough solution — offered at an unprecedented $299 MSRP.

Leading financial institutions and distributed capture technology companies have already selected the Panini I:Deal for small business RDC. Among these early adopters are NCR, WAUSAU Financial Systems, Metavante, Jaguar Software, Heartland Payment Systems, J&B Software, Jack Henry ProfitStars, Silver Bullet, and Edward Jones.
